Taupo Airport has taken out the prestigious Regional Airport of the Year Award at the NZ Airports Association's annual conference, highlighting a successful few years for the Taupo Airport including some major redevelopments and a more commercially orientated direction.

Works is now complete on the terminal car park with an additional sealed area, previously grass, providing a much need area for public parking.

Filming took place at Taupo Airport this month by Tom Scott Productions, re-enacting a drama, in which a local pilot and his aircraft played a part. Some of the footage was filmed in the air utilising a special stabilising camera that was mounted to the front of a helicopter.

The runway works was completed in February, with an extra 25mm thickness, increasing the pavement strength. With the centre line raised, ensuring water run off we can expect a greater longevity and durability from the runway.
